Career assessment is a fundamental part of skilled migration in Australia. Without an occupational assessment, there is no way to apply for 189 independent skilled immigrants, 190/491 state sponsored immigrants, 186 employer-sponsored immigrants, etc. The vocational assessment is an assessment of the educational background and work experience of most skilled immigrant applicants by the vocational assessment agency designated by the Australian Immigration Department. The vocational assessment agency assesses whether the applicant meets the nominated occupation and is used for immigration application.

They are industry associations in Australia, not the Department of Immigration, they are independent bodies. Dozens of job assessment agencies will assess hundreds of occupations on the Australian Job list. Your chosen occupation must be on the Australian Skilled Migration Occupation list, MLTSSL or STSOL, to be assessed.

The job assessment will compare your qualifications and work experience with the requirements of the profession in Australia, and the requirements for different occupations will be different. Assessment procedures, requirements, materials and hearing times vary from institution to institution.
